Recreationists in long term care are challenged to stay “in the positive,” in spite of constantly changing demands and expectations. In this session, the implications of the changing long term care landscape for recreationists and programming are presented. Specific strategies to address these issues are outlined, including the incorporation of targeted, resident-centred programing.
Approaches to keeping both residents and staff enthused and excited are incorporated into the session, first from a programming perspective, and secondly through the utilization of evidence-based documentation. By bringing documentation “to life,” recreation staff, residents and families will be excited and enthused about what they are able to communicate and achieve, relative to resident and programming successes and accomplishments.
